    Don’t Play With Fire!

A report claiming that People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has written a letter to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by sharing the same at her official X handle, asking him to constitute a committee to review the cases of terminated government employees in the Union Territory. It has been published in print media kindling hope among many of the affected employees. Though, this demand seems to be a noble one but as far as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is concerned, he should think a thousand times before giving a positive response in the matter as seemingly no termination order had been issued without proper home work and solid grounds by the then administrations helming the affairs of J&K.

This demand put forth by the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti seems to be more or less populist and an attempt to put the sitting chief minister in a fix because reinstating the terminated employees especially those having involvement in anti-national or terror activities will amount to playing with the fire, which no one sitting at the helm should dare to do.

It is pertinent to mention that reportedly Mehbooba has highlighted the plight of families of the terminated employees claiming that the action was ‘unjust’ leading to severe impact on the kith and kin of the affected lot. It is always advisable for the people ruling the region to leave such matters on the courts of the country.

If the former chief minister and PDP chief is really worried about the misery which she thinks the aforesaid people are facing she should help them to fight the cases in the concerned courts of the country including the HCs and the Apex one to get justice, if she is convinced that the shunted employees deserve better treatment than what have been accorded to them by the administrations in the past.

Although, it is the prerogative of the Chief Minister to decide which way he has to go in this matter, but what is advisable is to leave this issue because the action taken by the successive regimes seems to be evidence based and such an intervention can generate wrong signals, which should not be the case under any circumstance.
