Bandipora: In a rescue operation on Tuesday, Border Roads Organization (BRO) successfully salvaged 20 vehicles stuck in heavy snow in Bandipora district of J&K. The operation, carried out by BRO in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the local district administration, took place near Zadkhus Nallah and Razdan Top, both of which are known for challenging weather conditions during winter. The vehicles had become stuck as snow blanketed the region, marking the onset of the winter season across the Kashmir Valley. With temperatures dropping, snow accumulation in higher altitudes has led to road closures, including the Bandipora-Gurez Road, which is currently shut due to snowfall. “Our Project Beacon team had initiated snow clearance operations in the area to reopen blocked routes. The joint rescue effort aimed to ensure the safe evacuation of travelers and restore access to critical roads affected by the early winter snowfall,” BRO officials said. As winter weather continues to impact the region, authorities have warned of further disruptions and are working to clear snow on several other roads in the uphill areas.
