Jammu Tawi: M.K Ajatshatru Singh, senior BJP leader and former Minister today strongly condemned the National Conference (NC) for introducing a resolution in the Legislative Assembly aiming to initiate a dialogue to restore Article 370. In a statement issued here today, M.K Ajatshatru Singh reaffirmed the BJP’s strong stance that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is permanently abrogated and that the idea of restoring it is untenable. The senior BJP leader expressed deep concern over the unruly behavior displayed by NC MLAs, who disrupted the Assembly’s proceedings with tactics he described as aimed at creating unnecessary tension and diverting attention from pressing public issues. He emphasized that the whole world, including children, is observing the actions of Jammu and Kashmir’s elected representatives and stressed the need for maintaining decorum and responsible behavior. Ajatshatru urged new members of the Legislative Assembly to familiarize themselves with the rules and procedures governing the legislative body, underscoring the importance of dignified conduct. Ajatshatru Singh also appealed to the Speaker of the Assembly to take appropriate action regarding reports of manhandling of MLAs in the House. He underscored the importance of safeguarding the rights of all MLAs to prevent physical altercations.
He further highlighted that restoring Article 370 would require a two-thirds majority in Parliament, a feat he termed “impossible.” He criticized the NC’s efforts as distractions designed to halt the momentum of development and harmony in the region. The former minister called on all Assembly members to focus on addressing public welfare issues and to use the platform to uplift the J&K rather than engage in divisive and counterproductive politics.
