Jammu Tawi: The members of Gorkha community led by Gorkha Sabha president, Karuna Chatri, staged protest on Thursday at Gorkha Nagar against a resolution restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, which was passed in the assembly. The protestors accused the National Conference government and Kashmir-centric leadership of being biased against Hindus in the region and claiming they did not receive citizenship rights for 70 years under them. The protesters demanded a separate state for the Jammu region, saying it would allow them to have their own government that takes decisions benefitting them. The protestors said that the Gorkha community, who moved to Jammu and Kashmir from Nepal eight decades ago, voted for the first time in the assembly elections earlier this year. The J-K Assembly passed a resolution on Wednesday asking the Centre to hold talks with elected representatives for the restoration of the state’s special status which was opposed by BJP MLAs in the assembly.
