David Warner hints at potential comeback for Australia in 2025 Champions Trophy

Australian Opening Bat Sets Stage for Possible Comeback in 2025 Champions Trophy

In a social media post reflecting on his decorated cricket career, veteran Australian opener David Warner left the door ajar for a potential comeback by saying he remains open to representing his country once more if selected for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Warner had previously announced his retirement from one-day internationals after helping Australia lift their seventh World Cup title last year, and played his final Test against Pakistan earlier this season. He also confirmed the recently concluded T20 World Cup as his swansong for Australia in that format.

However, in an Instagram post thanking fans and teammates for their support over the years, Warner stated “I am also open to playing for Australia in the Champions Trophy if selected.” The 36-year-old will continue plying his trade in domestic T20 leagues for now but seems keen to potentially add to his international legacy in the 2025 50-over championship if teammates and selectors come calling.

Over his illustrious 15-year international career spanning all three formats, Warner amassed nearly 19,000 runs and was a key member of Australia’s World Cup, World T20 and World Test Championship winning squads. He hopes to have “entertained and changed cricket, especially Tests” with his attacking batting approach. Warner signs off by expressing gratitude to the support staff and wishes the team continued glory in the future.
