Ishan Kishan opens up about his break from international cricket
Prominent wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan recently spoke to this publication about his decision to take a break from international cricket last year. The talented youngster last represented India in November but requested time off during their tour of South Africa as he was battling fatigue and mental stress.
While Kishan made his return to competitive cricket at the DY Patil tournament, he revealed that it was a difficult period as very few people understood why he needed time away. “It was depressing as nobody except my family really made an effort to comprehend my state of mind”, said the dasher.
The Jharkhand batsman acknowledged traveling extensively for India had taken a toll. “I was not feeling right both physically and mentally,” he stated. Kishan’s family played a big role in supporting his choice to recharge, which he is grateful for.
On making a comeback, Kishan is solely focused on improving various aspects of his game. Facing competition from in-form options like Rishabh Pant doesn’t faze him. He welcomed it as an opportunity to enhance his skillset. Kishan expressed hope to represent India again soon while ruling out speculating on the future.
For now, the swashbuckling left-hander will concentrate on domestic cricket preparations with Jharkhand. He aims to showcase top-form and prove his match-readiness if an international opportunity arises. With ability and attitude in his favor, Kishan’s dreams of contributing more to India’s success remain very much alive.
