Google’s latest Pixel 8a smartphone aims to bring flagship-level experiences to more budget-conscious users, and in many ways it succeeds. In our initial testing, the Pixel 8a delivers on both design and performance despite its affordable price tag.
Right out of the box, it’s clear Google prioritized aesthetics with the Pixel 8a. Available in a calm ‘Aloe Green’ color, the matte rear panel feels smooth in the hand. Rounded edges make for a comfortable grip. Though plastic, the phone doesn’t feel cheap – it’s a well- crafted design users won’t feel the need to cover.
Specs are also impressive for a mid-range device. A 6.1-inch OLED screen now reaches 120Hz for ultra-smooth scrolling and motion. The Tensor G3 chip delivers snappy everyday performance while enabling AI features. A 4,492mAh battery should provide all-day endurance.
Speaking of AI, the Pixel 8a is one of Google’s ‘AI smartphones’ focusing on computational capabilities. Features like best shot selection, object erasing and live captioning seen on pricier Pixels now come to this more accessible model.
Our initial testing showed off the Pixel 8a’s strong camera abilities too. Daytime photos appeared detailed with accurate color, while low light shots surprised with minimal noise.
With a starting price of just Rs 52,999, the Pixel 8a succeeds in making Google’s software and camera smarts available to more buyers. Its design also ensures it stands out from the crowd. Our full review is still ongoing, but first impressions suggest the Pixel 8a is one of the best affordable Android options today.
