Rajkummar Rao starrer Srikanth continues its winning streak at the box office on its first Monday
The inspirational biopic Srikanth, featuring powerhouse performers Rajkummar Rao and Jyothika in pivotal roles, managed to beat industry expectations and pass a crucial test on its first working day after release.
As per reports, the Tushar Hiranandani directorial raked in an estimated total of Rs 1.75 crore nett on its first Monday, reporting a decline of 66.67% from the previous day’s collection. While this dip is quite natural for all movies, Srikanth still managed to outperform many big budget Hindi films released recently on the same day of the week.
Some of the movies that Srikanth’s Monday collection surpassed included the much hyped Merry Christmas starring Sidharth Malhotra which collected Rs 1.65 crore, as well as Operation Valentine starring Alaya F that saw a nett of just Rs 75 lakhs. Even small budget entertainers like Laapataa Ladies and Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 couldn’t come close to Srikanth’s figures.
Based on the real-life story of visually impaired industrialist Srikanth Bolla, the film struck a strong emotional chord with audiences over the long weekend. Rajkummar Rao’s intense and soulful portrayal of the protagonist won him widespread praise. The overall message of triumph over adversity also found resonance.
As per reports, morning and afternoon shows saw steady occupancy for Srikanth, which grew even stronger in the evening and night screenings. With positive word-of-mouth and strong content, the biopic will hope to maintain its momentum in the coming days.
Only time will tell if Srikanth can continue entertaining audiences and emerge a winner at the box office. But it has surely passed its first major test with flying colors thanks to its engaging storytelling and steller performances.
