French international and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Kylian Mbappe has announced that he will not extend his contract with the Ligue 1 giants and is set to join Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid. In a video message posted on social media, the 23-year-old thanked PSG fans and staff for an amazing five years at the club but confirmed that his time in the French capital has come to an end.
Mbappe joined PSG in 2017 and has gone on to score an incredible 255 goals in 306 appearances, establishing himself as one of the best players in the world. However, he grew up supporting Real Madrid and has long been linked with a move to the 13-time Champions League winners. With his current contract expiring this summer, Mbappe will depart PSG as a free agent after helping them to several league titles.
While Mbappe was unable to lead PSG to European glory this season as they lost to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals, Real Madrid are in the final and will have a chance to lift the coveted trophy for a record 15th time next month. The future of one of world football’s biggest stars now lies in the Spanish capital as Mbappe prepares for a new challenge at the club he supported in his youth. PSG fans will want to savor the remaining games of the season to bid farewell to their hero, who cemented his status as a modern great during his time in Paris.
