Srinagar, Mar 4: The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on Sunday said the meeting of sub- committee constituted by the Government of India to look into demands of statehood and constitutional safeguards for the region and their separate meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah didn’t yield any concrete and positive outcome.
Leaders of both the bodies said that the meeting of the sub-committee didn’t yield any concrete outcome. “The meeting ended without any concrete outcome. Subsequently, the sub-committee members had a meeting with Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. The meeting too did not yield any positive, “they said in a joint statement issued after their meetings in New Delhi, as per the KNO news agency.
According to LAB and KDA, they will devise a future course of action after consultation with the people of districts.
The Union Home Ministry had recently constituted a sub- committee comprising representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and members each from LAB and KDA. Advisor to LG Ladakh Dr Pawan Kotwal is also part of the sub-committee.
The leadership of Ladakh is seeking statehood for the region, safeguards under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, separate Public Service Commission and two Lok Sabha seats for the Union Territory.
