Anti-Covid Booster dose begins in J&K

    LG receives at Jammu, IGP receives at Srinagar

    Jammu Tawi, Jan 10: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today received the booster dose as government kick-started booster-dose vaccination drive for people above 60-years with co-morbidities, officials said Monday.

    Officials told that LG Manoj Sinha kick-started the launch of precautionary doses in District Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu where he was later given a booster dose. The LG while speaking on the occasion advised people to follow Covid Appropriate Behavior in spirit.

    Besides, Lieutenant Governor today launched the precaution dose vaccination for healthcare & frontline workers and those over 60 years of age with co-morbidities.

    The drive for precaution dose was launched for the UT of J&K from District Hospital, Gandhi Nagar Jammu where the Lt Governor also received the vaccine shot along with JMC Mayor, Sh. Chander Mohan Gupta, and Advisor to Lt Governor, Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, besides health care workers.

    The Lt Governor appealed to all the eligible people to get their precautionary vaccine shot at the earliest.

    On the occasion, the Lt Governor also flagged off 34 Advanced Life Support Ambulances of 108 services for Jammu Division, procured under World Bank funded Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project.

    The UT Government is making several interventions to strengthen public health response to COVID-19. Advanced life support ambulances will be a step in the fight against the global pandemic, said the Lt Governor.

    The Lt Governor was informed by the senior health officials that as per the directions, all necessary arrangements have been made for administering the precautionary dose to eligible population through walk-in and pre-registration mode.

    Pertinently, on December 25, 2021, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had announced a precautionary dose of vaccination for healthcare and frontline workers as well as those above the age of 60 years who have comorbidities.

    The vaccination drive for the 15-18 year age group which was launched on January 03 this year is going on smoothly across the UT.

    Vivek Bhardwaj, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department; Dr Raghav Langer, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Choudhary Mohammad Yasin; Mission Director NHM; Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director General, Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization; Sh Anshul Garg, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean GMC & AHs, senior health officials were present on the occasion.

    Bharat  Raina, an 85-year-old man from Jammu said that booster doses are very important for elderly people so that their immunity will last for more time but people must continue to take precautions too.

    Ramo Devi, a breast cancer survivor, who had suffered heart attack recently said that elderly people should not roam unnecessarily and people shouldn’t believe in rumours and instead get doses at the earliest.

    Naseeba Zargar, a 68-year-old woman, from Jammu also said that people who have already taken two doses must come for the third dose that is booster dose in order to prevent Covid spread.

    She said that they have already taken two doses and haven’t felt anything that was being spread through rumours. “People come must forward especially those with comorbidities, to get booster dose as proper vaccination prevents people from getting severe infections due to Covid,” she said.

    Officials said that Inspector General of Police Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar also took a booster dose shot at a police hospital in Srinagar in presence of director health services Kashmir.

    He also appealed to the eligible population to get their booster dose at the earliest in order to beat the deadly virus.

    Meanwhile, senior citizens who took booster doses were jubilant. They requested other people to come for the doses to keep Covid at a bay.

    Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather while talking to media persons after inaugurating booster vaccination drive at Public Health Center (PHC) Jawahar Nagar, said that on the directions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, vaccination drive for all health care workers, front line workers and people of age above 60 with co-morbidities has been started.

    He said that all necessary arrangements have been made for the walk-in and registered eligible population and urged the health care workers to protect themselves first.

    If our healthcare care workers will remain safe then we can keep the public safe and all the eligible population must come forward and get booster doses, he said.

    He said that the infection rate has increased in the past few days and there is a need to follow Covid-19 appropriate behavior in letter and spirit.
