Jammu Tawi, July 7: In utter violation of laid down norms, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has failed to call the General House Meeting since the last five months, which otherwise, is mandatory every month.
The last General House Meeting of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was held in March this year.
Elected Corporators, chairmen of different committees of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Mayor of the corporation besides heads of different departments and various other officers and officials participate in the General House Meeting which is solely convened for the elected corporators for raising issues concerning people and seeking their redressal.
“This has adversely impacted various development works in the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC),” sources informed the Northlines
In the General House Meeting, the elected representatives raise different issues concerning people of their respective wards. They also put forward the blueprint/proposal of different development works to be undertaken in their respective wards and seek their approval from the House.
Apart from this, the elected public representatives can also hold accountable the officers/officials of different departments for delay and negligence of other requisite components like quality etc in execution of different ongoing development works in their respective wards.
“Neither we have been able to raise public issues of our areas nor we have been able to put forward the development requirements of our wards,” some of the corporators said when contacted by the Northlines.
“Despite our repeated requests to the concerned authorities, the General House Meeting has not been called so far,” they said adding, “It is unlikely that the much important meeting would be called this month also”.
They said that the files/proposals regarding their different development works have been pending in various departments of JMC since the last 3 to 4 months and there is nobody to be held accountable.
“Had there been General House Meeting we would have held someone responsible and sought explanation,” they said adding that they have to face public wrath for all this.
As per the protocol, the elected corporators and other concerned participants of the General House Meeting of the Jammu Municipal Corporation are informed days before the scheduled date of the meeting so that they could participate with full preparation.
An official letter is issued to all concerned regarding holding of the meeting. However, no such communication has been conveyed to the corporators, sources informed.
“The development works are being badly affected and it is unlikely that the meeting will be held this month also,” Chairman of one of the committees of JMC said while wishing anonymity.
