Will write to Centre to release funds under ISSS: Sakina Itoo

Srinagar, Dec 6: Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday announced that she would write to the Government of India, urging the release of funds to clear the pending pensions for specially-abled individuals, widows, and other vulnerable groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Itoo acknowledged that while most pensioners have been receiving their dues on time, those under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) have been facing significant delays due to a shortage of funds. “We will write to the Government of India in this regard as a major share for the scheme comes from the Centre, and we are hopeful that the funds will be released soon,” she said.

Itoo highlighted that many specially-abled individuals and widows rely heavily on these pensions, which serve as their primary source of income. The delay in payments has caused severe hardships for these vulnerable sections of society.

She also revealed that the government is considering an increase in the pension amount, from the current Rs 1000 per month to Rs 3000 per month, to better support those in need. The issue is under active consideration, she added. (KNO)
