After it has been observed that some black sheep in the police department have been indulging in drug peddling, it has become necessary that the law enforcement agency should conduct checking without any exceptions as the present state of affairs in J&K is precarious with many entities involved neck-deep in the illegal drug trade.
In this context, another glaring example has come to fore when cops have arrested a Special Police Officer (SPO) for drug peddling and 5.95 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. This is really unfortunate that those who have been assigned the duty of containing the menace of drugs are themselves indulging in this crime thus deteriorating the situation to next level. The accused SPO has been presently posted at District Police Lines Udhampur.
This is shocking that there are people who should stop drug supply and peddling in their area of jurisdiction are abetting this crime which has the potential to eat up the vitals of society. Undoubtedly, such unprincipled persons are the ‘assets’ for the drug mafia and drug cartels as these so-called policemen know about the loopholes of system and the strategy of the real cops to contain drug menace. These people under the guise of Khaki do help the illegal drug suppliers to thrive their illegitimate business without caring about the ramifications it has on the society especially the youths, who are more vulnerable to drugs.
There is a dire need to identify all such rogue elements who have somehow entered the police department but are working for those thriving on dangerous drug dealings because if the action is not taken soon the damage caused to the region can become irreversible as drug menace has the potential to ruin the lives of people socially, physically, financially and psychologically also.
The issue is of great importance and therefore the people sitting at helm should take immediate steps to counter this problem objectively and put an end to this aberration of society or else it will become difficult to transform the next generation of people as nation builders because substance abuse can devastate the youth and stop the process of progress for decades, which should not be the case.
