Jammu Tawi, Dec 13: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Friday re-appointed Prof Umesh Rai as Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu for a period of next three years.
As per the order issued, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in exercise of the powers vested in him, under Section 12 (5) of the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969, has re-appointed Prof. Umesh Rai, as the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, for a term of three years from April 5, 2025, the date of completion of his existing term as the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu.
Meanwhile, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai has been granted a two-year extension as Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Shalimar.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Manoj Sinha, who is also the chancellor of SKUAST-K Friday issued an order extending tenure of Ganai for two more years with effect from December 16, 2024.
Prof Ganai was appointed as VC SKUAST-K on December 16, 2021.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me, under Section 25 (2) of Sher-I-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Act, 1982, I, Manoj Sinha, Chancellor, SKUAST Kashmir hereby extend the tenure of Prof Nazir Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Kashmir for a period of two years with immediate effect from 16.12.2024, the date of completion of his existing term as the Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Kashmir,” reads the order issued by the Lt Governor’s Secretariat.
Born in 1965, Prof Ganai is the brain behind various policy initiatives in the agriculture landscape of J&K, including the 5012-crore Holistic Agricultural Development Program (HADP).
He was also behind getting SKUAST-K prestigious Rs 30 Crore World Bank ICAR-funded project (NAHEP). SKUAST-K’s project NAHEP was later declared a case study by the World Bank for its its efficient deliverance and vision.
