Those rejected by people trying to dominate the House through disorder: Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a strong attack on the Opposition on Monday, accusing them of obstructing parliamentary proceedings and hindering meaningful discussions. Speaking to the media ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, he accused those “repeatedly rejected by the people” of trying to control the House through chaos.

“This is a session where meaningful work should take place, yet we see disruptions instead. Those who have been rejected by the electorate multiple times are attempting to dominate the House through disorder,” PM Modi said, condemning the opposition’s approach.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of this Winter Session, calling it a special occasion as it marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. “This session is special in many ways. The Constitution is entering its 75th year, a monumental moment for our democracy. Tomorrow, we will commence this extraordinary occasion in the new Parliament building,” he said.

Modi further stressed the significance of the Constitution’s creation and the rigorous efforts of its framers, especially regarding the role of Parliament and parliamentarians. He called for more productive debates and healthy discussions, emphasizing that disruptions were preventing new MPs from speaking and contributing in Parliament.

“The most troubling aspect is that new MPs, who bring fresh ideas, are being denied the chance to speak due to disruptions,” Modi stated. He urged for a shift towards intergenerational learning, with each generation in a democracy responsible for training the next. He criticized those who, despite being rejected by the people, continue to block discussions.

Reflecting on India’s rising global influence, PM Modi said, “The world looks at India with hope. Our discussions in Parliament can elevate India’s position on the world stage, and we must not waste this opportunity.”

He concluded by urging MPs to engage in meaningful debates on critical issues, stressing that such discussions are essential to uphold the trust voters have placed in democracy, the Constitution, and the parliamentary system. “I hope this session proves to be productive, and I encourage all MPs to approach it with passion and enthusiasm,” he said.
