Srinagar, Sep 27: Terrorists are reportedly waiting at launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into the Kashmir Valley, but security forces remain on high alert, said Ashok Yadav, Inspector General (IG), BSF Kashmir Frontier, on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, Yadav said infiltration attempts typically increase before the onset of winter, with militants seeking to move in before snowfall limits their chances for the next six months. “There are still about two months, and chances of infiltration are there till November because they know they will have lesser chances for the next six months. So, they always attempt to infiltrate, but because of the alertness of the forces, it is very difficult to infiltrate,” he said.
The IG confirmed that terrorists are present at launch pads across the LoC in the Bandipora and Kupwara sectors, waiting for an opportunity to cross over. “Sometimes they wait for inclement weather to make a move. So, the attempts are always there, but we are prepared and alert for any eventuality,” Yadav added.
He said that the Army and BSF are dominating the LoC using advanced surveillance equipment. “Along with the army, we are dominating the LoC very well. The security forces foiled two infiltration attempts so far this year. It is very difficult to infiltrate our area because of the alertness with which we perform our duties and the new methodology and surveillance equipment that we have,” Yadav noted.
Officials stressed that continuous vigilance and high-tech monitoring ensure that infiltration attempts are largely unsuccessful, maintaining the security of the Kashmir Valley.
