SRINAGAR, June 1: Authorities have temporarily revised check-in baggage arrangements for Haj pilgrims returning to Srinagar Airport due to runway maintenance work and payload restrictions imposed under a NOTAM issued for flight operations.
According to the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, return flights operated by Akasa Air to the Srinagar Embarkation Point will route via Ahmedabad. Pilgrims will be allowed to carry up to 35 kg of check-in baggage on the journey to Ahmedabad.
However, only 5 kg of check-in baggage per pilgrim will be transported on the Ahmedabad-Srinagar sector, while the remaining 30 kg will be sent separately by road to Srinagar. The cabin baggage allowance remains unchanged.
The ministry said the restrictions have been necessitated by temporary runway length limitations and payload constraints at Srinagar Airport due to ongoing maintenance work, undertaken in the interest of flight safety.
It clarified that the revised arrangements are solely the result of operational and aviation safety requirements and assured that efforts are being made to ensure a smooth return of pilgrims.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs, Haj Committee of India and the J&K State Haj Committee are coordinating with all stakeholders to facilitate the safe, smooth and dignified return of Haj pilgrims, the ministry said, adding that safety considerations remain paramount. (Agencies)
