Jammu, Aug 23 (UNI) Though the chocolate boxes have replaced the milk made sweets for the past some years but, this Rakshabandhan, the trend have reverted and sweets worth Rs One crore were sold in a one single day on the occasion of festival in the Jammu City.
“The sale of milk made sweets has seen a dip but on Sunday, on Rakshabandhan occasion, milk made sweets worth Rs one crore was sold, which signifies ‘achhe din’ for the dealers,” a sweet shop owner expressed.
Once upon a time, he said that on the occasion of festivals like Rakshabandhan, Diwali, Bhaiya Dooj, Karwachauth (fasting by women), sweet sellers used to have business between Rs 1.5 crores to 2 crores across the City but the trend has changed in the recent past.
“Chocolate boxes, preserved sweets and other packed items have become first choice in place of milk made sweets but the trade on Sunday was on track as people purchased fresh sweets on Rakshabandhan festival,” he said.
Another sweet seller asserted that the trend has reverted, adding, “fresh sweets are always mouth watering. Revenue of Rs one crore in a day in Jammu city to the sweet sellers, is a good thing that has happened.”
“On Saturday and Sunday alone, we sold sweets worth Rs 3.5 lakhs, which was a good business,” a sweet seller said.
Pertinent to mention that in Jammu City, around 200 sweet shops are into this business.
“Around Rs one crore business was done on Rakshabandhan,” a leader of shopkeepers sweets association said and added that in fresh sweets, there is no compromise on quality and people love to buy them particularly the sweets of local taste.
Praying that Covid pandemic must now come to an end, he hoped that in the coming days, the business of sweets sellers would definitely flourish.
‘Desi Ladoo’, ‘Jalebi’, ‘Kaju Katli Barfi’, ‘Coconut Barfi’, were among the most liked and favourite sweets sold on Rakshabandahn, he disclosed.
