    Strengthen Anti-Drug Measures

It is quite praiseworthy that cops in J&K are on toes to contain the drug menace as a multi-pronged strategy has been adopted to end this vicious cycle of bringing narcotics from across the border, and selling the same to the vulnerable section of society including the youths and using this proceeds to fuel terrorism.

In this connection, the latest befitting action against an alleged drug peddler has been reported from Udhampur city wherein police has attached an immovable property worth Rs 60 lakh belonging to him under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 180/2025 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act of Police Station Rehambal. The attached property comprises a double-storey residential house at Ward No. 6, Karan Nagar, Udhampur.

This is not the first such case in the UT because there are many similar cases reported in the recent times wherein properties of people involved in drug peddling have been attached under aforesaid sections of law.

The growing scale of narco-terror networks in the region further highlights the urgent need for sustained vigilance, stronger inter-agency coordination, and community participation. With drug traffickers continuously adopting new methods to evade law enforcement, it becomes essential for the administration, police, and local stakeholders to work collectively in identifying hotspots, monitoring suspicious activities, and promoting awareness among the youth to prevent them from falling prey to this destructive nexus.

In the same context, police working to dismantle the drug-trafficking ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir has recovered one kilogram of heroin from a vehicle in the parking area of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla and arrested the occupants of the vehicle, including a woman. The cases in which women are found involved in abetting drug peddling make it necessary for the law enforcement agencies to spare none while conducting checks with regard to drugs and also terrorism because women, children, aged and others could be involved in such crimes to avoid suspicion of the cops.

This fact makes it imperative for the police to spare none when it comes to checking with regard to drug consignments as anyone could be roped in to carry out this illegal business, which is highly profitable as many drug peddlers have raised huge properties after opting to run this trade of narcotics. As the police in the Union Territory is after the drug smugglers and the substance abusers, it becomes necessary to keep track of all the probable wrongdoers irrespective of their age or gender, because drug smugglers can go to any extent to carry out their illegal transactions.

It is good that a woman has been detained for her involvement in illegal drug trade, the cops should ensure that every suspect should go through stringent checking and frisking at places to ensure that no one could dodge the police and smuggle drugs, which are dangerous for the overall health of the society.
