New Delhi, Jul 18: Activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to a hospital on Saturday after his health deteriorated on the 21st day of his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, Delhi Police said.
According to the police, Wangchuk was moved to the hospital on the advice of medical experts and in compliance with the directions of the Delhi High Court to ensure he received essential medical care.
“As per orders of Hon’ble High Court and on expert medical advice due to the deteriorating health condition of Sh. Sonam Wangchuk, he has been shifted to the hospital for essential medical care,” Delhi Police said in a statement.
The police alleged that some protesters attempted to obstruct the process while Wangchuk was being shifted, leading to a brief commotion at the protest site. However, it said personnel exercised maximum restraint and completed the transfer safely.
“While complying with the orders of Hon’ble High Court the protestors tried to create obstruction, in which slight commotion ensued, however police took maximum restrain and undertook the exercise safely,” the statement added.
Delhi Police also appealed to the demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar to end their agitation and vacate the protest site peacefully at the earliest. (Agencies)
