SKUAST-J organizes workshop for Officers

    Jammu Tawi: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized officers monthly workshop here today through online mode which was attended by a number of extension officers from the Department of Agriculture of Udhampur distt. The workshop was organized under the guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta and Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu,Prof.JP Sharma. Dr.Ravinder Singh Soodan, Associate Professor, SKUAST-J  warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the objectives of the workshop. While elaborating the monthly message he said that the recommended varieties of different crops should be utilized by the farmers. He urged the participants to take the consultations from the experts of SKUAST-J before the further dissemination of technologies to the farmers. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal stressed on the timely management of different diseases and insect-pests in different diseases. He stressed on the organic farming and said that there is need to commercialize the organic agriculture so that the income of the farmers of the area can be enhanced. He highlighted the use of biopesticides, biofuncides and biofertilizers   in the organic vegetables crops so that yield can be increased by the minimum inputs. Dr.Dharvender Sharma, Asstt.Prof., SKUAST-J spoke on the management of army worm and stem borer in maize. He also spoke organic treatment of various insects-pests in vegetable crops. Dr.Sachin Gupta, Assoc. Prof., SKUAST-J spoke on various plant diseases management. Dr.Shahid Ahamad, Assoc. Director Research discussed on the extension literature required for the farmers. Dr.SK Singh, Assoc. Prof., SKUAST-J spoke on the organic management of paddy blast and rhizome rot in ginger. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist stressed on the advance horticultural technologies to increase the fruit crop production in the district. Distt. Agriculture Officer, VK Mahajan spoke on doubling the farmers’ income and stressed on the diversified farming. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi presented the formal vote of thanks.
