SIU seizes property of militant, Police attaches house of drug smuggler

Srinagar, Aug 1: Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of and Police on Tuesday attached property of a militant commander operating from Pakistan in Kupwara district of Kashmir.

Police said the land measuring six Kanals and 3 Marla belonging to Abdul Rashid Qureshi alias Farooq Qureshi, a resident of Kachama, Kralpora Kupwara who is operating from Pakistan was attached by the SIU Kupwara following investigation of an FIR.

He exfiltrated to Pakistan in early 1990s and is presently the launching commander of Al-Barq outfit in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

“Following extensive intelligence gathering and meticulous investigations in case FIR No.276/2022 of Police Station Kupwara registered under sections 120-B, 121, 121-A, 122, 123 IPC & 17, 18, 18-A, 18-B, 20, 38, 39, 40 of UA(P)A, the team of SIU Kupwara Police led to the identification and subsequent attachment of the terrorist's property located at multiple locations within the district at village Kachama,” police said.

Police also said Qureshi has been a persistent threat to peace and security of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since the time he exfiltrated to Pakistan in early 1990s.

“He is a member of Al-Barq terror outfit and presently operating from PoJK as launching commander.

Farooq's strategic involvement in numerous acts of terror has caused immense suffering and loss of innocent lives in the valley in the past. Jammu and Kashmir Police has been actively pursuing his acts to bring an end to his destructive activities,” police said.

In another case, Police attached an under construction house of a drug smuggler and seized a vehicle of another in Baramulla district, officials said on Tuesday.

Police said on June, 27, 2023, Baramulla Police attached an under construction house on land measuring 10 marlas at Main Mohalla Pattan belonging to a drug Smuggler identified as Barkat Ali Main after obtaining legal sanction from competent authorities.

The said house was linked to case FIR No. 84/2023 u/s 8/22 NDPS Act of Police Station Pattan.

Similarly, Baramulla Police also attached vehicle Hyundai I10 bearing registration belonging to one Abdul Rehman Malik of Kalantra Payeen after obtaining legal sanction from the competent authorities.

The said vehicle was linked to case FIR No 33/2023 u/s 8/20, 29 NDPS Act of Police Station Kreeri.

The investigations proved that the said movable/ immovable properties was raised from Illicit Trafficking by the drug Smugglers.

Simultaneously, these attachment of property (Illegal acquired property by Drug Smugglers)  orders of Baramulla Police was referred to Competent Authority & Administrator Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property Act, 1976 and Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 & Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act 1988 New Delhi who approved in terms of clause (g) of section 68B of the NDPS Act.

The confirmation order regarding attachment of properties from SAFEM (FOP) A & NDPSA, New Delhi has boosted the morale of officers of Baramulla Police who are acting tough against the drug smugglers and drug trafficking in the district.

Moreover, orders regarding attachment of other properties which have been issued by our officers shall be forwarded to SAFEM (FOP) A & NDPSA, New Delhi for confirmation in near future, police said.
