Rs 100 Cr Jihad of Conversion: UP ATS Busts Massive Network Targeting Hindus

‘Caste-based “Rates” for conversions were fixed — with Rs 15-16 lakh promised for Brahmin, Sikh, Kshatriya women, Rs 10-12 lakh for OBC women & Rs 8-10 lakh for other castes’

Lucknow — In what appears to be one of the most alarming exposures of an organized religious conversion racket in recent times, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested 70-year-old Jamaluddin alias Chhangur Baba, and his wife, from Balrampur on Saturday. The couple is accused of running a deep-rooted, foreign-funded Islamist conversion network across several districts in Uttar Pradesh, with disturbing national and international implications.

Originally from Mumbai, Jamaluddin (born Ghanshyam Rohera), his wife Neetu (now Nasreen), and their daughter Samale (now Sabiha) are said to have converted to Islam in Dubai in 2015. They then returned to India and settled near the Chand Auliya Dargah in Balrampur, posing as devout Sufi saints under the false guise of “Hazrat Baba Jamaluddin Peer Baba.”

According to police, this was no spiritual journey — but a carefully orchestrated operation to lure Hindus into Islam, using romantic entrapment, coercion, monetary allurement, and religious deception. At least 40 individuals, including minors, were reportedly converted through psychological manipulation and fraud.

Recovered evidence points to over Rs 100 crore in foreign funding routed through 40 bank accounts — allegedly used to incentivize mass conversions, with special targets on upper-caste Hindu women.

A recovered diary reveals over 100 names of potential conversion targets, many from vulnerable or high-value caste groups. Alarming caste-based “rates” for conversions were fixed — with Rs 15-16 lakh promised for Brahmin, Sikh, and Kshatriya women, and lesser amounts for OBCs and others, indicating a clear communal and caste-strategic agenda. Rates fixed for OBC Women Rs 10-12 lakh and Rs 8-10 lakh for other castes,” an ATS Officer added.

Despite having fully converted, the family retained their original Hindu names in official Indian documents like Aadhaar, PAN cards, and property records — an act now under scanner for deliberate identity fraud.

One case involves a Hindu woman from Lucknow, who was allegedly trapped in a relationship by a Muslim man using a fake Hindu name, and then coerced into conversion by Jamaluddin’s wife and others. The modus operandi suggests Love Jihad-like tactics — blending deception, romance, and psychological pressure.

Further deepening the concern, the accused and his network reportedly made nearly 40 trips to Islamic nations, raising questions about ideological radicalization, financial channels, and transnational support.

Given the international links and terror finance potential, the state police have recommended a multi-agency probe involving the NIA and Enforcement Directorate. The investigation began following a local complaint but has since ballooned into a serious matter of national security and religious sovereignty.

This is not merely a case of conversion — but of systematic demographic engineering, hiding under the cover of religious freedom, but executed with foreign funding, deceit, caste-targeting, and outright fraud.
