NEW DELHI, Feb 6: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday strongly criticised Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for raising the issue of the unpublished memoir of former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane in the Lok Sabha, accusing him of disrupting parliamentary proceedings and politicising sensitive defence matters.
In a social media post, Rijiju said national defence and security issues should never be used as political tools, asserting that the NDA government has never declassified confidential reports to target former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru or the Congress party.
He said the Modi-led government is headed by a mature leadership and pointed out that since 1962, the Henderson Brooks–Bhagat Commission report has remained a top-secret document. Rijiju added that the report had severely indicted the Nehru government over India’s humiliating defeat in the 1962 war with China.
The Henderson Brooks–Bhagat report was prepared by Lieutenant General Henderson Brooks and Brigadier General Premindra Singh Bhagat and was commissioned by then Acting Army Chief General J.N. Chaudhuri to review the Indian Army’s operations during the 1962 conflict with China.
The report continues to remain classified. Rijiju also reshared a 2024 post highlighting the Modi government’s efforts in strengthening border infrastructure across the country. (Agencies)
