SRINAGAR, Dec 7: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hamid Karra, on Saturday reiterated the party’s strong demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that it is crucial for both the region and the nation.
Speaking to news agency, Karra stated that the Congress party has consistently raised the issue of statehood across various regions of Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu and Rajouri. He stressed that the demand for statehood has remained a priority for the party ever since the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019.
“The restoration of statehood is not only vital for the people of Jammu and Kashmir but is also in the national interest,” Karra said, expressing concerns over the Central Government’s delay in addressing the issue. He questioned the lack of action from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the government, despite repeated reminders to the Prime Minister and Home Minister.
Karra emphasized that Congress will continue to press for the restoration of statehood, calling it essential for the political and economic well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We will not back down on this demand,” he concluded, reaffirming the party’s commitment to securing full constitutional rights for the region.
