Punjab police takes down interstate arms smuggling ring, detains 2 tied to Canada extremist

Punjab authorities have taken down an inter-provincial weapon smuggling network and detained two individuals associated with a Canada-based radical, Lakhbir Singh, also known as Landa. In a social media post yesterday, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav revealed that sensitive intelligence enabled law enforcement to break up the ring and apprehend the two suspects, recovering six pistols, magazines and ammunition.

The DGP shared that an intelligence-driven operation led the Punjab Police to bust the firearms smuggling racket operating between states and detain two operatives of the foreign-based militant. A total of six sophisticated pistols along with magazines and ammunition were seized from the accused. An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar in this regard.

Yadav added that investigation is underway to map the upstream and downstream links of the network and arrest remaining perpetrators to fully dismantle the illegal arms trafficking syndicate functioning from Madhya Pradesh. Stern action, he asserted, will be taken against all involved in organized crime and illicit weaponry channels. On Sunday as well, five associates of Lakhbir Singh were apprehended by the police, according to reports.
