Jammu Tawi, Mar 07: The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is most likely to inaugurate India’s high speed Vandhe Bharat Train from Jammu to Srinagar
very soon as the date for inauguration of this first ever high speed train between two capital cities is being finalized keeping in view the security arrangements and other factors for PM’s visit.
“The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is most likely to inaugurate the first Vandhe Bharat Train from Jammu to Srinagar very soon, like the way he inaugurated this high speed train from Katra to Srinagar,” official sources informed the Northlines, while wishing not to be named.
They, however, said the date for inauguration of first Vandhe Bharat from Jammu to Srinagar is still being worked out and will be finalized soon.
As of now, the Vandhe Bharat operates between Katra and Srinagar. After inauguration by the PM Modi, it will start operating from Jammu to Katra and then to Srinagar.
The trial run for this high speed train has already been successfully done last month by the Indian Railway authorities under the supervision of experts, keeping in view the hilly terrain between Jammu, Katra and Srinagar rail track.
They further said that more than 97% of work for putting in place the requisite infrastructure for operation of this train has been completed, and for the remaining one, the work has been going on war footing.
The high speed Vandhe Bharat operating from Jammu to Katra and then to Srinagar will have 20 coaches and will run between the speed of 90 to100 kms per hour much below its speed due to hilly terrain in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), they said.
The training for staff, technicians and other category staff for maintenance of Vandhe Bharat at Jammu Railway Station has almost been completed.
The track for running the Vandhe Bharat from Jammu to Katra and Srinagar is also nearing completion, they said.
A new yard for maintenance of the Vandhe Bharat train is also nearing completion at Jammu Railway Station, they said.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, flagged off the first Vande Bharat train service to Kashmir on June 6th 2025. Since then the India’s high speed train, Vandhe Bharat, has been running between Delhi-Katra-Srinagar with no stoppage at Jammu Railway Station.
As of now, the Vandhe Bharat Train comes to Katra and then goes to Srinagar, with no stoppage at Jammu.
The operation of this high speed train from Jammu will give a major boost to the tourism as the tourists from various parts of the country will have the convenience of visiting various tourist destinations of Jammu region and then board the Vandhe Bharat from Jammu Railway Station to go to Srinagar.
