NEW DELHI, Mar 27: A Joint Parliamentary Committee examining three bills proposing removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and ministers after 30 consecutive days of arrest on serious charges has been granted more time to submit its report.
The Lok Sabha on Friday extended the panel’s deadline till the first day of the last week of the Monsoon Session of Parliament 2026, which usually begins in the third week of July.
The committee, chaired by BJP leader Aparajita Sarangi, is reviewing three legislations — The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025; The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 20 last year and were subsequently referred to the committee for detailed examination. (Agencies)
