OPPO unveils new Reno 12 series with focus on widescale AI adoption

Chinese tech giant OPPO unveiled its new Reno 12 series of smartphones in India recently. The launch underscores the brand’s ambitious plans to spread AI-powered capabilities to a wider user base internationally. Speaking at the event, Peter Lee, Head of Product Strategy at OPPO, shared the company’s vision of making artificial intelligence simple to use for all while reducing system demands.

According to Lee, OPPO has devoted significant research efforts towards AI, with a dedicated team and over 5000 patents in related fields. This focus influences product design especially for camera and interface functionality. The newly launched Reno 12 lineup incorporates various AI-assisted features aimed at enhancing photography, productivity and device efficiency in an intuitive manner. Some of the highlighted capabilities include one-click background removal from photos, live transcription and automated photo editing options.

Despite involving complex algorithms, OPPO emphasizes simple usability of AI services for daily tasks. Privacy and data security also remain high priorities. As Lee assured, the brand’s AI does not collect personal identifiers, only tracking anonymous usage patterns.Commenting on the Indian market specifically, Lee noted double-digit annual sales growth for OPPO’s Reno range since 2021. The company expects similar sales momentum this year as well through the new series.

Looking ahead, Lee anticipates trends like increased durability, security and personalized AI experiences to shape the smartphone sector globally. While designs may vary regionally, OPPO aims to cater diverse consumer preferences through tailored solutions. With aggressive AI investments and strategic industry tie-ups, the brand intends to democratize advanced AI to benefit tens of millions more worldwide very soon.
