One-eyed distribution!

Date:

The famous Punjabi term ‘Kaanivand' better expressed in English as one-eyed distribution used to refer to discrimination, inequality, injustice or unjust allocation best suits the situation with regard to overstaying of some of the ex-ministers/ ex-legislators in government accommodations in J&K while the concerned quarters managing the whole gamut forcing those allegedly belonging to opposition to vacate the same as early as possible. This speaks of hypocrisy of those helming the affairs as despite the matter in court, the stubborn authorities are doing nothing substantial to ensure a fair deal.

In this important matter pertaining to fair play, while considering a PIL, reportedly a Division Bench of the High Court of J&K and has ordered Directors Estates, and Srinagar to deal with each and every person, and pass specific individual orders either for cancellation of accommodation and eviction or allotment thereof by giving specific reasons for doing so. This order is of great significance because for quite some time, the things were allowed to linger on while in case of some of the opposition party leaders, the very same department showcased extraordinary haste in uprooting them out of the aforesaid accommodations using all kinds of methods.

There is no big deal in case of evicting those who don't deserve such accommodation on merit but the question is of those who don't deserve to continue to stay in government accommodation but the concerned department had turned its face the other side and is giving undue benefit for the reasons best known to the people running the affairs.

It seems that under the incumbent government there are two parallel laws governing the rules, one for those who have connections with the political class in power and the other for the entities which are out of power. Under such circumstances where unlawful are ruling the roost, one can gauge well the condition of the common man who is facing the wrath under anti-encroachment drives wherein he or she cannot even put a bucket or dustbin outside their establishments.

It is good that the court has taken cognizance of the issue in the aforesaid PIL and it is expected that sooner than later, the justice will be delivered but till then the big question is going to haunt the reasonable citizens which have noticed the idiom ‘Jiski Laathi Uski Bhains' becoming true in the aforesaid case of accommodating those in government accommodations, who are undeserving.
