Jammu, September 4 (KIP):- Since the PDP had refused to allow its MPs
to join the recently major reshuffle in the central council of
Ministers, there is hardly any person from Jammu and Kashmir in the
Union Council of Ministers. According to PDP sources, the party did
not want to have a share in the union cabinet after it had earned
peoples' wrath in the Kashmir valley.
But the union Government has compensated absence of a person
from Jammu and Kashmir in the Union cabinet by allowing Jammu and
Kashmir to receive10 per cent of all Central grants given to states
over the 2000-2016 period, despite having only one per cent of the
country's population, analysis by Central and State finances shows.
In contrast, Uttar Pradesh makes up about 13 per cent of the country's
population but received only 8.2 per cent of Central grants in
2000-16. That means J&K, with a population of 12.55 million according
to the 2011 Census, received Rs.91,300 per person over the last
sixteen years while Uttar Pradesh only received Rs.4,300 per person
over the same period.
In refusing berth in the union council of ministers the PDP
has emulated the JD(U) in Bihar. The JD(U) refused to get a berth in
the union council of ministers despite the fact that Nitish Kumar has
been able to form the Government in alliance with the BJP.In Jammu and
Kashmir also the PDP has forged an alliance with the BJP for the
formation of the state Government.
In Bihar the RJD, headed by Lalu Prasad has been a vocal critic
of Nitish Kumar for having sought support from the BJP and I n In J&K
PDP has earned displeasure from the NC for forming a coalition
Government in alliance with the BJP.This way neither Mehbooba nor
Nitish Kumar wanted to invite displeasure from people and the
opposition parties.(KIP)
