Srinagar, Oct 10: The National Conference (NC) on Friday announced Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Shammi Oberoi, and Sajad Kichloo as its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
Speaking at a press conference, NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar said the party has finalized three candidates and is currently in talks with the Congress regarding the fourth seat. “We have kept one seat open, and discussions are ongoing with the Congress,” Sagar said.
NC leaders did not clarify whether the party intends to reserve one of the three safe seats for the Congress or offer a competitive seat where the BJP holds an advantage. Reports indicate that while the alliance has 24 votes for the fourth seat, the BJP commands 28 votes, potentially making it a closely contested battle.
The announcement marks the first step by the NC in preparing for the Rajya Sabha elections, with the outcome of the alliance discussions likely to play a decisive role in securing the fourth seat. (KNO)
