NEW DELHI, Apr 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged over one crore civil servants to place the principle of citizen-centric governance at the core of decision-making, stressing that public service must be driven by compassion and continuous learning.
In letters written on April 20 ahead of Civil Services Day, Modi emphasized that governance should reflect the spirit of ‘Nagrikdevo Bhava’ — treating citizens as paramount — and called on officials to serve people to the best of their abilities.
The letters, issued in 12 languages, were circulated across ministries, departments, states and Union Territories to ensure wider outreach.
Highlighting the evolving global landscape, Modi said the 21st century presents both challenges and opportunities, with rapid technological advancements and rising expectations from citizens and the world.
He stressed the need for government systems and work culture to adapt to this transformative phase, encouraging civil servants to adopt lifelong learning through platforms like iGOT Karmayogi.
Addressing officials as ‘Karmayogis’, the Prime Minister noted that the letters were written during a festive period across the country, marked by celebrations such as Rongali Bihu, Vishu, Puthandu, Poila Boishakh, Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti and Baisakhi.
He described the ongoing ‘Sadhana Saptah’ as a unique initiative fostering learning and growth among civil servants nationwide and lauded their dedication to strengthening the vision of a developed India.
Reiterating the importance of innovation and curiosity, Modi said initiatives like Mission Karmayogi aim not only at skill development but also at reinforcing the values of service, compassion and excellence in governance. (Agencies)
