LG Sinha urges for modern labs, better diagnostic access in remote areas

Jammu Tawi, Dec 04: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Thursday delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session of APCON 2025, the 73rd Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists (IAPM) and the International Academy of Pathologists – Indian Division (IAP-ID), held at Government Medical College, Jammu.

The five-day conference, themed “Emerging Trends in Pathology: From Morphology to Molecular Insights,” has brought together leading pathologists and microbiologists from across the country to deliberate on the latest developments and innovations shaping the future of pathology.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data analysis into diagnostic processes to improve accuracy, accelerate results, and strengthen the bridge between science and clinical medicine. He noted that the healthcare system must focus on enhancing diagnostic precision and reducing the time to treatment, especially for life-threatening conditions. Mainstreaming precision medicine through advanced diagnostic testing, he said, requires laboratories to build modern infrastructure capable of converting data into meaningful clinical insights for doctors.

Highlighting strategies to strengthen public health, the Lieutenant Governor called for empowering the field of pathology with cutting-edge advancements and developing standard treatment protocols through multidisciplinary research. He also underscored the importance of identifying and addressing gaps in medical education by designing new training modules for students and professionals.

The Lieutenant Governor further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India’s healthcare sector has undergone historic transformation. He urged all stakeholders to work collectively to expand digital health records and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) services to far-flung areas, and to create stronger linkages between smaller health centres and larger laboratories for expert guidance.

“Building a modern healthcare system and improving the quality of life for all is our goal,” LG Sinha said. He called upon stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to collaborate in establishing dedicated diagnostic facilities in remote regions and reducing the time gap between diagnosis and treatment in underserved areas.

The inaugural session was attended by Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal GMC Jammu; Dr. Usha Kini, President IAPM; Dr. Reeni Mallik, Vice President IAPM; Dr. Ranjan Agarwal, Honorary Secretary IAPM; office bearers of IAPM and IAP-ID; and several Pathologists and medical professionals.
