JAMMU, Mar 29: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said the Jammu Marathon reflects the profound transformation of Jammu and Kashmir into a hub of peace, prosperity, and global sporting events, while felicitating the winners at a ceremony held at M A Stadium.

Addressing the participants, Sinha called the first-ever international marathon a historic milestone, noting that Jammu and Kashmir has now firmly established itself on the global sporting map. Organized by the J&K Tourism Department, the marathon featured 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km race categories and drew over 3,000 participants from across India and abroad.

The Lieutenant Governor said the success of the event is expected to boost tourism, benefit local trade, and contribute to comprehensive development in the Union Territory. He emphasized that the marathon symbolizes perseverance and progress, reflecting Jammu and Kashmir’s steady advancement since 2019.

Highlighting the region’s growing sports culture, Sinha noted that Jammu and Kashmir is now capable of hosting international sporting events, including marathons and cricket tournaments, underlining the Union Territory’s emergence as a global destination for such events.

Prominent personalities, including Milind Soman and Gul Panag, along with sportspersons, youth, and citizens, attended the felicitation ceremony.
