LG launches Covid vaccination for 15-18 Yrs in J&K

    ‘Vaccination is a critical tool to help stop the pandemic’

    Jammu Tawi, Jan 3: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today launched the Covid vaccination drive for children aged 15-18 years in Jammu & Kashmir.

    COVID-19 vaccination for the UT has been started from Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu with the inoculation of the dose to the children under 15-18 years age group. Officials informed that 822 vaccination sites have been set up across 20 districts of the UT.

    Vaccination is a critical tool to help stop the Covid pandemic. My humble request to the young friends to get vaccinated, said the Lt Governor.

    Don’t be complacent after getting vaccinated. It’s crucial to continue following COVID protocols & guidelines, he added.

    The Lt Governor asked the health officials to keep the vaccinated children under mandatory observation period.

    Additional Chief Secretary Health & Medical Education Department Vivek Bharadvaj kick-started vaccination drive at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh Srinagar.

    While talking to media, Bharadvaj said that it is a special day for Kashmir as vaccination has been started for children of 15-18 years of age across India.

    He said that 8.33 lakh children will be vaccinated in J&K and a plan has been already devised to vaccinate children at around 1600 sites and our aim is to vaccinate one lakh children on daily basis.

    The Additional CS said that he was hopeful that the Union Government will keep us stock of vaccines available so that this process can be completed as soon as possible.

    He said that the administration was are fully prepared to tackle any eventuality as number of beds including ICU, ventilators have been increased by many times besides that oxygen supply has been increased by 10 times.

    Meanwhile, Director School Education Tasaduq Hussian on the occasion said that supplementary exams are available for all those students who had missed exams because of being covid positive. School education department has also been asked to encourage the children to get vaccinated.

    Amidst the surge in COVID cases and the new Omicron variant, the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided the inclusion of 15 to 18 years age group in the National Covid Immunization programme from today.

    Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor JMC;  Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lt Governor; Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Dr Raghav Langer, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Anshul Garg, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; senior health officials and students in large number were present during the launch of the vaccination drive.
