New Delhi, Nov 29: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday stressed the need for judges to regularly engage in recreational activities, citing long working hours and the highly stressful nature of judicial duties.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the All India Judges Badminton Championship at the Thyagraj Sports Complex, the CJI said recreation helps judges recharge and maintain their well-being.
“The working hours of judges are long and stressful. All judges should participate in a recreational activity and make it a habit,” he said.
The CJI noted that the large participation of High Court judges in the event reflects their growing awareness of fitness and health needs.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and several Supreme Court judges attended the inauguration.
The two-day championship will conclude on Sunday, with former CJI B. R. Gavai and Justice Vikram Nath presiding over the closing and prize distribution ceremony. The event is being organised by former international badminton player Abantika Deka. (Agencies)
