Jammu, Feb 19: A 24-year-old Agniveer allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle while on guard duty at an Army camp in Nagrota on the outskirts of Jammu, officials said on Thursday.
The soldier, a native of Uttar Pradesh, is reported to have taken the extreme step around midnight on Wednesday at the Nagrota garrison, they said.
He died on the spot, and his body was later shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for post-mortem examination.
The motive behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained. Police have initiated inquest proceedings to determine the circumstances leading to the incident, officials added. (Agencies)
