Jammu, Feb 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has enhanced the maximum Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) limit for employees under the 7th Pay Commission from ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh with effect from January 1, 2024, following Dearness Allowance reaching 50% of basic pay.
A Finance Department clarification said the increase takes effect automatically under Note 8 below Article 240-BB of the J&K Civil Service Regulations, which provides for a 25% rise in the gratuity ceiling whenever DA touches 50%.
The clarification, issued by the Principal Secretary Finance, follows references seeking clarity after Government Order No. 178-F of 2024 dated May 21, 2024, raised Dearness Allowance for government employees to 50% of basic pay from January 1, 2024.
Accordingly, the gratuity ceiling stands enhanced by 25% from ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh from the same date, subject to existing rules governing grant of Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity, the circular said. (KNC)
