Doda/Jammu, Sep 16: Low-speed 2G mobile internet services were restored on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, a week after they were suspended following protests over the PSA detention of sitting AAP MLA Mehraj Malik on September 8.
While normal broadband services resumed on Sunday and schools reopened on Monday after a three-week closure, residents reported difficulties in accessing online banking, government services, and e-commerce due to limited 2G bandwidth. Many demanded full restoration of 4G mobile services.
Feroz Ahmad, a local resident, said, “We welcome the restoration of 2G services but it is inadequate for tasks like mobile banking and online shopping, especially after the hardships caused by recent flash floods and subsequent unrest.”
Authorities have assured gradual easing of restrictions. Doda SSP Sandeep Mehta warned of strict action against social media users spreading provocative content or fake news.
Malik, president of AAP’s J&K unit, was detained for allegedly disturbing public order, triggering violent protests and leading authorities to impose prohibitory orders and suspend internet services across the district. (Agencies)
