Discussions on to finalize place either at Parade or City Chowk: Joint Comm

Jammu Tawi, May 15: Jammu, the winter capital of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir, is all set to have its first clock tower like the one at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, as the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has floated tenders in this regard which are in final stage.
The JMC has proposed two sites for Jammu City’s first clock tower, i.e one at Parade and another at City Chowk also known as Bharat Mata Chowk.
Official sources said that the place for Jammu’s first clock tower will be finalized soon. “The discussions for putting in place Jammu’s first clock tower in the city have been going on and the tendering process is also in the final stages,” Joint Commissioner, JMC, Qazi Firdous, informed, while talking exclusively to the Northlines.
The design of the clock tower will also be finalized soon in consultation with the consultancy agency, the Joint Commissioner said.
Like in Lal Chowk of Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to put in place a similar Clock Tower in and the project is expected to be completed by next 3 months.
The Clock Tower at Parade or at City Chowk in the heart of Jammu City will be put in place in next 3 months and the cost of the project will be at around Rs 70 lakhs.
Jammu’s first clock tower will be put in place under the Smart City Project and the ground work has already been started in this regard, sources said, while adding that various factors and ground situation are being considered for installing the Clock Tower.
Sources said that the upcoming Clock Tower at Jammu will be designed in such a way that it reflects the varied culture of different areas of Jammu region besides reflecting communal harmony and strengthening national integration.
They also said that the Clock Tower has been proposed at Jammu by the Government of India (GoI) after which the Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) prepared the proposal and floated tenders which are now in final stage.
They also said that the upcoming Clock Tower at Jammu will be designed in such way that it will be a major tourist attraction in this region.
