J&K: 3 killed as cloudburst hit Ramban; Rescue Ops underway

JAMMU, Apr 20: Three people lost their lives in a tragic cloudburst that struck the Seri Bagna area of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir early Sunday morning, officials confirmed.

According to Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer Ul Haq, the region experienced continuous rainfall overnight, triggering landslides and flash floods that not only claimed lives but also damaged property and stranded vehicles along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, with men and machinery pressed into service since the night. However, road access remains blocked due to multiple landslides in the area, complicating relief efforts. Union Minister and Member of Parliament Dr. Singh expressed grief over the incident, describing the loss of lives as “unfortunate.” He assured that all necessary assistance—both financial and logistical—is being provided to the affected families. “There was a heavy hailstorm, multiple landslides, and strong winds throughout the night in Ramban and surrounding areas,” Dr. Singh said. “I commend the swift action by the district administration, which undoubtedly helped save more lives.” Local authorities continue to assess the damage, and efforts are ongoing to restore connectivity and provide aid to affected residents.
