India Names Squads For Upcoming Multi-Format Series Against South Africa

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian women’s squads for the forthcoming series against South Africa. India will take on the Proteas in one Test match, three ODIs and three T20Is starting from mid-June.

Harmanpreet Kaur will continue leading the ODI and T20I sides, with Smriti Mandhana retaining her role as vice-captain. The availability of top-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues and all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar for the tour remains subject to their recovery from respective injuries. Priya Punia returns to the ODI lineup having last featured for the team over a year ago in July 2021.

The one-day matches will be played in Bengaluru while Chennai will host the solitary Test as well as the T20I games. The two nations last faced off in the longest format back in 2014. India will be hoping to fair better having lost their previous Test encounter.

The ODI series doubles up as part of the ICC Women’s Championship which decides qualification for the 2025 World Cup. Fans can look forward to riveting cricket across all three formats during what promises to be a highly competitive series between two evenly matched teams.

India will kickstart their campaign on June 16 with the opening ODI in Bengaluru. The players and supporters will hope for improved performances after a mixed set of international matches earlier in the year.
