Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir, stated on Saturday that he had received information regarding yesterday's attack on a police party in Bandipora, north Kashmir, in which two cops were killed.
SgCt Mohammad Sultan and constable Fayaz Ahmad were killed in the attack at Gulshan Chowk area of the district yesterday.
According to news agency KNO, DGP Dilbag Singh said police “have got the initial clues with regard to the attack and it is working to identify the involved militants”. Singh was talking to the media on the sidelines of his visit to the residence of one of the slain cop's in Sopore.
“Police with the support of security forces has been protecting people and ensuring their well-being, which doesn't suit the militants, thus are attacking the police force,” he said.
The DGP further said that “only a few” foreign militants are active in north Kashmir and that the militants are “targeting policemen for protecting people”.
