New Delhi: The sacred vrat of Hartalika Teej is being observed today by Hindu women. Hartalika Teej marks the devotion of Goddess Parvati for Lord Shiva. Married women keep this vrat for the long life and wellbeing of their husbands.
Hartalika Teej is associated with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It was first observed by Goddess Parvati to attain Shiva as her husband. Women observe a strict fast without water on this day and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati at night. This puja is done with mud idols of the deities along with offerings related to marriage like sindoor and kumkum.
As per Hindu calendar, the tithi began on September 5th at 12:21 PM and will end today at 3:01 PM. The auspicious time for puja is from 6:02 AM to 8:33 AM. In addition, two auspicious astrological combinations – Shukla yoga and Hast nakshatra are occurring today.
After the puja, married women offer blessings to their mothers-in-law. It is believed keeping this vrat and indulging in jagran at night fulfills desires and strengthens marital bonds. Chanting shlokas related to Shiva-Parvati wedding from Ramcharitmanas and planting a tulsi plant at home are said to assure happy married life.
