Pilibhit/Chandigarh, Dec 23: Three terror suspects, allegedly involved in the grenade attack on a police checkpoint in Gurdaspur, were killed in an encounter with a joint team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab police in Pilibhit early Monday. Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav described the operation as a significant breakthrough against the Pakistan-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) module.
The suspects have been identified as Gurvinder Singh (25), Virender Singh alias Ravi (23), and Jaspreet Singh alias Pratap Singh (18), all residents of Gurdaspur, Punjab. The encounter occurred in the Puranpur area of Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.
Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General (Law and Order) of Uttar Pradesh Police, confirmed that the trio was responsible for the grenade attack on the police checkpoint in Gurdaspur. “The three sustained serious injuries in the encounter and were rushed to CHC Puranpur for treatment but later succumbed to their injuries,” Yash said.
Authorities recovered two AK-47 rifles, two Glock pistols, and a significant amount of ammunition from the suspects. In a statement on social media, DGP Gaurav Yadav said the operation, conducted by the joint police teams of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, was a crucial step in dismantling the KZF terror module, which is suspected of being behind several grenade attacks at police posts along Punjab’s border.
“The suspects fired at the police party during the encounter. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the terror network,” added Yadav.
