New Delhi: The Government on Sunday convened an all-party meeting ahead of Parliament’s Winter Session, during which the opposition is expected to raise issues such as the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, the recent Delhi blast, and key foreign policy matters.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal represented the Government at the meeting. BJP president and Rajya Sabha Leader of the House J.P. Nadda participated as the party’s representative. Opposition leaders present included Jairam Ramesh, Gaurav Gogoi and Pramod Tiwari (Congress), T.R. Baalu (DMK), Derek O’Brien (TMC) and E.T. Mohammed Bashir (IUML), along with Manoj Jha (RJD), Harsimrat Kaur (SAD) and Sanjay Jha (JD-U).
The customary meeting, aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of parliamentary business, comes as the Government plans to introduce several new bills during the upcoming session. The Winter Session begins Monday and continues until December 19, featuring 15 sittings — a schedule the opposition has termed a “brief session,” compared to the usual 20 sittings.
