Srinagar, Feb 15: A girl allegedly committed suicide after her boyfriend refused to marry her in Budgam district, police said on Thursday.
The body of the deceased, identified as Kulsum Rehman, a resident of Drung Tangmarg, was recovered from an open field in the Magam area on Wednesday.
Police said on February 14, a call was received by police station Magam, reporting the recovery of a suspicious dead body in an open field.
“A suicide note was also recovered during the search of the deceased, implicated a local youth, alleging his involvement in her decision to commit Suicide due an alleged affair and subsequent denial of marriage”, police said and added “prima facia seems to be a case of poisoning related suicide abetted by the youth who was arrested in the case”.
Police have begun an investigation under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC ), they said.
A case under section 306 0f IPC was registered at Police Station Magam and further investigation was taken up.
