Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNO): Ghulam Hassan of north Kashmir’s Handwara has been on the forefront in lending help to needy students in the form of making their educational pursuit easy.

Hassan along with other like-minded people had established Educational Club Kashmir and formed it with an aim to provide free books to underprivileged students who don’t have avenues to carry on their educational career.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Hassan started this endeavour from the small town of north Kashmir’s Handwara and roped many like-minded people in the effort to ease out the hardships of underprivileged students.

“I along with other souls took up this initiative and with the passage of time many well wishers came forward and lent their support in providing books to us,” Hassan said.

“We initially established a mini-library for poor students who were visiting us for books. We are not buying it from markets but our well-wishers are supporting us and we are acting only as mediators,” he said.

Hassan continued that the students of this frontier district are facing manifold hardships as they are far away from the competitive world and the pandemic lockdown added to their woes.

He remarked that last year around a hundred underprivileged students were provided free books among them two were from the Baramulla district.

Hassan said they are collecting the books from students and later distributing them to the needful students.

This Education Club Kashmir has also conducted the GAT examination for students in which 1278 students participated among them 130 students qualified for the exam and the top three position holders will be awarded while the 1st position holder will be given a laptop.

The purpose of the exam was to help the students understand the areas of education that they need to be in touch with to cope up with the contemporary competitive scenario. The exam was not any curriculum syllabus oriented but a mixture of general knowledge from different fields.

The founding members also said they also have a plan to provide coaching for competitive exams to the students.

“We have decided to do it in collaboration with various coaching centres. At least 5-6 students will be admitted in these coaching centre,” he said

We will pay these coaching centres on our own and there are several well wishers who are joining this cause.

“We were also scheduled to organize the programs on district levels but due to back to back Covid-19 waves we were unable to do the same but are hopeful once the situation will improve we will start organizing these programs,” Hassan said—(KNO)
